Anyone can publish a website. If you can save a file and drag and drop a folder, you can get your own website online for free, right now.
This website is built that way. I wrote the code myself (you can download my HTML and CSS templates from here for free if you like - just enter your own words using a text editor and save). Then I dragged and dropped my folder of new webpages to Netlify's Drop tool. I did a few other things to connect that site to my domain name, howtobuildasmallwebsite.org, which I pay to use. You can use a domain name of your own if you like (prices start at a few pounds/dollars each year) or you could just use the free URL Netlify give you for your project. I'll add low-cost and other free options as this site grows. I've chosen Netlify to start with because they make it as simple as drag and drop.
I'm someone who's always made websites this way. It's coming back into fashion as more people get frustrated with social media algorithms, AI-generated slop, enshittification, and corporate pricing plans. Having your own personal website using your own words at your own pace is almost cool again. My goal here is to help make that easy for anyone who wants to do it. I'm not selling anything.
